General Information
This is the first Hotel in Taormina, in front of the Roman-Greek Theatre; it dates back to 1873 and represents the major expression of Framon style.
In a park of 25.000 m², populated by numerous typical floral species, the historical Hotel contains the famous "literary terrace". Surrounded by a spectacular panorama, the terrace represents the ideal meeting place for well-known guests.
All rooms, with precious furniture, have got panoramic terraces or balconies. The suites recall the magnificence of the Sicilian Baroque. Among them there is the Kaiser Zimmer, with its polished and fascinating atmosphere and with a terrace of 220 m², to live the whole magnificence of the aristocratic Sicily at the beginning of the century. In a magical setting, the restaurant "Il Dito e la Luna" offers everything is refined and genuine in the Sicilian and Mediterranean gastronomy. Taormina appeared as "a strip of paradise on the earth" to the eyes of one of its most important visitors, Johann Wolfang Goethe, who visited it in 1787. It was an exciting discovery for the German literary man who quoted in a memoirs the warm emotions aroused by his famous "journey to Italy".
Taormina, which is now one of the most famous tourism localities in the world, halfway between Messina and Catania, was not much bigger than a village at that time, closed as a small fortress between the walls built by the Arabians almost thousand years before; the quarter realized through the big terracings, that contained during Romanic time the naumachies (big tanks), is instead more recent.
There are many noble residences, like the wonderful Palazzo Corvaja, Palazzo dei Duchi di Santo Stefano, and the churches, every one built with a peculiar architecture style, from Chiesa dei Cappuccini to Chiesa di San Pancrazio that was built on the rests of an Hellenistic temple.
Property Description
The hotel is made up of two main buildings, surrounded by a huge ancient Park of 25.000 square meters, with a total of 87 rooms, four of which are in the park. Almost all of the rooms overlook the shore and have small balcony or terrace. There are two communal areas with sofas and tea tables called 'La Floresta' and 'Otto Geleg'. An American Bar called 'La Zagara' with an Arabian architecture and a beautiful restaurant called 'Il Dito E La Luna'. No penalty for cancellation till 3 days before the arrival; penalty of the 50% of the entire stay for cancellation among 3 and 1 days before the arrival; penalty of the 100% for cancellation 1 day before the arrival or no show. Early departure or reduction of stay will be charged in full.?
